Benefits for The Environment

Did you know?

Numbers of phones: Used cell phones are plentiful! Inform, an independent research organization, issued a study explaining that there are more than 500 million used, out-of-commission and obsolete cell phones in homes and offices across America.

Environmental hazards: If not disposed of properly, cell phones are damaging to our air, soil and water:

* One cell phone can pollute up to 132,000 liters of water.

* Cell phones (and other electronic devices) contain toxic substances such as arsenic, lead, cadmium, and beryllium that can pollute the air when burned in incinerators and leach into soil and drinking water when buried in landfills.

* Cadmium can damage the kidneys and it is transfered through the air and through our food.

* Lead Accumulates in landfills and can cause damage to the central and peripheral nervous systems.

* Mercury gets into our water supply and accumulates in living organisms and travels up the food chain. The principal exposure pathway is through our food and it causes brain damage.

* E-C-R's goal is to protect our environment. All collected cell phones and electronic devices are either refurbished or disposed of using only the most ecologically sound methods.

Why Recycle?

Protecting the environment is very important. Just think, if one cell phone pollutes up to 132,000 liters of water, 5 cell phones would polute 660,000 liters of water (that is approximately 2,200 average households that are being affected by polluted water). That's just water, cell phones can also pollute the soil and the air with toxic substances such as arsenic, lead, cadmium, mercury and beryllium. These can cause serious health problems if released into the air, soil, and water that we use in our daily lives.

Why E-C-R?

Why should you give your used and unwanted cell phone to E-C-R (E Cellular Recycling)?
E-C-R makes it easy for you to recycle your cell phone. If you have used cell phones collecting dust and taking up space in your house you're at the right place. You can send in your phone to the address at the bottom of the screen, If you give us one cell phone to recycle you will be saving 132,000 liters of water from becoming polluted.
One person can make a difference.

How do I Recycle?

If you are sending in your phone: Send in your used cell phone with any accessories, its better to collect as many cell phones as possible and ship them once. Don't forget to remove your sim cards from your phones, delete any phone numbers or personal information, and deactivate any service plans.
